As the most economic logging tool for servicing horizontal wells, the Well Tractor has being attached great importance to. It has already used for logging, perforation and salvage etc. in horizontal wells, so it will have a good future. At the foundation of analysing the principium and process of centralizer very well, the paper makes the research for the centralizer more perfect for applying the mothod of optimal design of mechine and simulation of VPT (Virtual Prototyping Technology).When using the mothod of optimal design of mechine to optimize the centralizer, the paper accomplishes the work as follows. First of all, it introduces and analyses the principium and process of the centralizer. Whereafter, it builds the physical model and mathematic model for the centraliser. Finally, it programs in MATLAB Optimization Toolbox to optimize the length of arms and the parameters of springs, gets the results and even analyses the capability of the centralizer before and after the optimization. Through the optimal design, the lenthgh of the arm and the stiffness of the spring are discreased, so that it is succeed in improving the capability of the centraliser.When applying the mothod of VPT to simulate the centraliser, the paper accomplishes the work as follows. First of all, it introduces the process of applying Pro/E and ADAMS to simulate. Whereafter, it builds the three-dimensional model of centralizer in Pro/E, and transmits it to ADAMS by the interface software MECHANISM/Pro. And then, it tests and validates the virtual prototyping and performaces the kinematic simulation. Finally, it builts the virtual prototyping for the dynamic simulation of the centraliser, accomplishes the dynamic simulation of the centraliser in horizontal wells, gets the very important data of the simulation and analyses the dynamic capability of the centraliser. Moveover, it proves that the optimal design for the centraliser is right by the simulation.
