As the most economic logging tool for servicing horizontal wells, the Well Tractor has being attached great importance to. It has already used for logging, perforation and salvage etc. in horizontal wells, so it will have a good future.The paper makes the research for the movement units more perfect by applying the method of optimal design of machine and dynamic simulation.First of all, it introduces the work process of the well tractor and the movement unit. Where-after, it builds the virtual model of parts and completes the assembly of the parts by applying Pro/E.It transmits the three-dimensional model of movement units in Pro/E to ADAMS. And then, it tests and validates the virtual model in ADAMS. Finally, it builds the virtual model for the dynamic simulation of the movement units, accomplishes the dynamic simulation of the movement units in horizontal wells, gets the important data of the simulation and analyses the dynamic capability of the movement units.When using the method of optimal design to optimize the movement units, First of all, it builds mathematic model for the oriented pin and spring. It programs in MATLAB Optimization Toolbox to optimize the oriented pin and the parameters of springs, gets the results and even analyses the capability of the movement units before and after the optimization. Finally, it does finite element analysis of driving gear. Finally, it improves structure of the driving gear to optimize the structure of movement units.
