More network application and larger network scale reveal the limitations of Internet network base on IPv4 protocol, such as lack of address and none of Quality of Service,IPv6 network, which has large scale address and better quality of service, develops quickly and becomes one of the most important technology in the next generation. The topology discovery of the IPv6 is the most important aspect of the management of network. Therefore, how to discover and manage network topology automatically becomes a new problem for the realization of network management. And it is also the research kernel of this paper.At first this paper presents the effect of topology management in network management system, By analyzing the difference between IPv6 and IPv4 protocol and researching the concept, technique and application in IPv6 this paper presents several problems which must be resolved in IPv6 network topology automatic discovery system. Then this paper deeply studies these problems and finds out the designing and accomplishing methods. On the base of these methods, it is realized that's network topology automatic discovery system in IPv6.The main work and achievements of the paper include:1. Since the range of the IPv6 address expands and the ipv6 RouteNextHop that defines in SNMPv3 can not fulfill the demand of topology discovery, the method that the Ping and the Route table in SNMP uses in traditional IPv4 is not fulfill with the topology discovery of IPv6.
