An embedded system is just a computer buried inside some other product. Embedded system has used in all sorts of complicated engineering technologies, for instance, network communication system, manufacturing system, medicine equipments, electric power system, electric network, auto manufacture, space shuttle, transport system, etc. Embedded system was composed of hardware and software, microcontroller is the core of hardware, and ,if operating system was used ,it would be the core of software.First, this page introduce the development of embedded system and the general principle of embedded system. ARM architecture is the mainstream among all sorts of processor architecture, A relatively particular study has been done about the LPC2290 microcontroller that is based on ARM 7 core. The research on Linux 2.4 has been done, The emphasis of the study is put on process manipulated and process scheduled, interrupt response and interrupt handling, file system, inter-process communication, the memory management of the popular uCLinux embedded operating system, and programming Linux device driver. the device drivers of A/D Analog-to-Digital Converter has been realized. The method of building an Embedded Software Development Environment is analyzed in detail, include building Cross Compiler, porting the Linux kernel, building the root filesystem, otherwise, the debugging of embedded system has been studied, include the software debugging and the hardware debugging.
