In the dissertation, the Cr4+:YAG laser which can be used in the quantum communication is researched by the theory and experiment . In chapter one, we discuss the background and development of ultra-short pulse laser and its applications in quantum communications. In chapter two, the mode locking theory is discussed. We introduce the initiatively mode-locking, passively mode-locking, synchronization mode-locking and self mode-locking, etc. The mode-locking technology is very important in the producing the ultra-short pulse. In the chapter three, the cause of producing dispersion and theory of dispersion compensation by prism pair in our Cr4+:YAG laser are studied. We find that the second order dispersion can be completely compensated by prism pair and the third order dispersion can be partially compensated. So the width of pulse can be more compressed. In the chapter four, we study the Cr4+:YAG crystal and the measure of ultra-short pulse. Firstly, we talk about the characteristic of Cr4+:YAG crystal ,rate equation and structure of energy bands.
