The latest video coding standard H.264 introduces a series of advanced video coding techniques. It provides significantly better video compression efficiency together with the enhanced ability of error resilience and network adaptation. The research on H.264 will greatly promote the developing of video technique. Nowadays embedded system is paid more and more attention to. Since it is flexible in hardware and software, easily to upgrade and portable, it is widely applied in the fields of industry, daily life as well as military, and often take place of PC and ASIC. Blackfin533 is the new multimedia chip of AD Incorporation. The study on H.264 standard and its implementation on Blackfin533 is important to the application of video techniques on embedded system.This paper is on the study of main techniques of H.264 and its implementation on Blackfin533. First, the author learns the basic thought and theory, analyzes the detail of the standard. Then, the author gets to know of the hardware and software platform based on the Blackfin533, learns the structure, the bus, the management of memory, management of the cache of the Blackfin533, learns how to use DSP++. Finally, the paper introduces the software and hardware implementation of H.264 coding system as well as the optimizing of transform part. Video collection and pretreatment module includes the functions of video frame collection, frame format convert and video data storage. The optimizing of transform program is according to the optimize principles and the characteristics of Blackfin533.
