H.264 is the newest video codec standard with high compression ratio,high image quality and network-friendly. It has absorbed advantages of the former video codec and put forward many new ideas and algorithms, and increases codec efficiency and image quality, but it also leads to a significant increase in the amount of computing, so how to realize H.264 efficiently is one of the main problems in multimedia applications.Blackfin533 is a low-power,high-performance and fixed-point DSP chip produced by ADI ,and its frequency is up to 600MHz, and it can handle 1200M multiplication per second. Blackfin533 uses Micro Signal Architecture (MSA) developed by ADI and Intel, and it introduces some special video processing instructions, and can handle parallel instructions. Blackfin533 also has advantages of power,cost and high cost-effective, so it is suitable for the embedded video applications.January 7, 2009, Ministry of Industry and Information technology of the People's Republic of China has issued the third-generation mobile communications (3G) license to China Mobile,China Telecom and China Unicom, which indicates 3G will be in China, and 60% of people are willing to use 3G service. This shows that digital video technology will incorporate into all aspects of people's lives. Therefore, the study about the implementation of H.264 video decoder based on Blackfin533 has broad application prospects.This paper studied H.264 reference code JM86 and Blackfin533 hardware structure, and take into account of the real-time video applications,Blackfin533 frequency and memory, as well as other factors, then has chosen H.264 Baseline Profile as the research object, and bring out the scheme about the implementation of H.264 video decoder based on Blackfin533.The paper will expatiate detailed as follows: 1. Extract the H.264 Baseline Profile in PC machine and realize H.264 Baseline Profile decoder algorithm on the platform of Blackfin533, at last progress system optimization and module optimization for H.264 Baseline Profile;2. During algorithm optimization, determine that the time-consuming functions are entropy coding,deblocking filter and quantitative transformation module, then the judgement of boundary strength (BS) of deblocking filter module is specially studied, and propose an efficient arithmetic for deblocking filter based on the former,then shorten about 10% of the decoder time;3. In other sides of optimization, propose optimization strategies such as compiler optimization,memory resource optimization and compiled language optimization based on Blackfin533 hardware platform.Through these optimizations, H.264 decoder can improve decoder speed and quality, and shorten decoder time, effectively reduce the calculation and the software overhead of CPU, then improve the efficiency of the decoder.
