As repository of huge information resources, university library websites take the advantage of Internet to have greatly promoted information spread and effectively supported teaching and research. However, due to lack for guidance of usability evaluation system, lots of problems exist in many university library websites, such as, low visiting rate, low users' satisfaction rate, etc. Seen from the view of integral layout, interface style, information content and service quality, many university library websites are not users-oriented, or even they want to be but cannot realize it in practical approaches. Both situations cause a lot of problems in usability of university library websites. Since most university library websites share the same aims, users, information resources and services, this thesis proposes a usability evaluation system and designs a computer aided analysis system, in order to promote the development of university library websites, improve the usability of university library websites, and increase users' satisfaction. From the view of university library websites' users, this thesis analyzes the definition and content of university library websites' usability firstly, examines some frequent usability problems of China's university library websites, and then summarizes users' information behavior and information requirement by questionnaire. Then, based on reference on research result of website usability abroad and at home, and combined with the style analysis result of China's university library websites, the thesis proposes the design aims, principles and views of China's university library websites. Finally this thesis designs a usability evaluation system of China's university library websites, that is, a checklist formed by a series of norms, from the following six aspects, integral website, website information, user service, webpage design, webpage navigation, and website visiting.Base on the usability evaluation system, by quantity study, this thesis designs an aided analysis system with computer technology with the idea of checklist in software engineer, which can be usedas a usability evaluation tool for university library websites. With this system, we evaluated 10 southwestern university library websites as subjects, then commented on their usability design and proposed some suggestions.
