Application Of VLAN Technology In Cable Broad Brand Network

VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) , is a new technology that realizes virtual workgroup by dividing the logical address rather than physical address into network segments. IEEE promulgated 802.1Q Agreement Standard Draft on realization scheme of standardization VLAN. Though VLAN is not the best network technology, it is being extensively used in many companies as a method on logical subsection of network node. VLAN collocate in enterprise network in many ways. VLAN that includes network safety and in which wireless users roam on the interface and insulation IP voice flow transmits data in different agreement broke many traditional conceptions on network and made network structure more flexible and convenient.Nowadays, CATV Broadband technology is increasingly growing up, and make use of the existing CATV net to go online with high speed by Cable Modem. Because it only takes up part of the available frequency spectrum, it couldn't have any influence when the users watch TV or make a call at the same time. The technology has advantaged predominance to the common dialing-up websites and the fiber cut-over websites needing cabling twice. It has become one of the most important Internet Service Providers. So it became all-important on how to manage CATV Broad Band. The VLAN technology that emerged as the times require became an effective measure to solve this management problem. Because it has advantage on collocating flexibly, controlling network broadcast storm effectively, and managing network safely.This thesis based on the application of VLAN in Liaoyang Broadband network construction, and studied the application of VLAN technology in Broadband network. Liaoyang's original Broadband network that was installed and come into use in 1998 is one of the first three Broadband networks of China. It had many problems in the process of operating and managing with the users' connection and network' application. Though a few matters has been under control or solved with the improved equipment and server's collocation in the network center as well as the relevant management system, some issues such as illegal users being online by unauthorized EP are not yet settled. Network management personnel use lots of methods, which are not favorable for net's supervision and management by considering the safety of the whole network. The said measures can't make quick reaction to some emergencyand is actually not feasible. The solution should focus on the equipment of the network center. VLAN technology takes great effect in solving unauthorized log-on, distributing network resource reasonably, balancing net burthen, reducing network broadcast information. The research of VLAN technology' application in Broadband enables the technology exert its advantage, break the limits of its using in local areas, and has great significance in enhancing the safety and efficiency of Broadband network. The technology also plays an important role in specialized network and future new net function.
