With the rapid development of Internet and its popularization in daily use, it's obvious thatInternet is bringing us a thorough revolution. World Wide Web is the most developed service onInternet. It utilizes platform-unrelated standard interfaces and protocols to browse many kindsof media information and to access databases. The entirely new technique of combining Weband database together is being more and more widely used in information technology areas.Although modern Logistics Information System also uses hypertext, hyperlink,platform-unrelated technique, remote database access and query, but it's very slow to querybecause the information is stored as texts or pictures in the Web server. However, Web databasecan organize and manage batches of data orderly and regularly. So the combination of Web andDatabase will improve both the function and the efficiency of Logistics Information Systemgreatly. To resolve the problem, a new method is suggested in this paper. With the help ofWeb-based database, this paper designed a Logistics Information System suitable for thecommon third party logistics. The Logistics Information System consists of an OrderManagement Subsystem, a Transportation Management Subsystem, a Warehouse ManagementSubsystem, a Customer Management Subsystem, a Cost Management Subsystem, anOrganization Management Subsystem and a System Management Subsystem. It employsRational Rose for the modeling of the system and uses JDBC to access, modify and maintainthe Web-based database. This system makes business logic and business data separated, thusenhances the stability and extensibility, and makes the system more reusable andeasier-maintained. It's useful in saving both human and material resources in logisticsmanagement, shorting logistics operating time, and relieving the lag in logistics management.
