The three or two layers of user-data transfer platform of Internet, which has low transfer efficiency, can't meet the needs of QoS for different application data traffics in future merged networks. Meanwhile, DWDM technology has provided high-speed communication base for merging the television network, telephone network and traditional computer network into the future integrated network. The background of the work presented in this dissertation is the SUPANET (Single physical layer User-data transfer & switching Platform Architecture Network) introduced by Sichuan Network Communication Key Laboratory (SC-Netcom Lab) to meet the needs of QoS for future merged network. The SUPANET uses out-band signaling technology to simplify the user-data transfer platform (U-platform) into a single physical layer, which can greatly improve QoS guarantee.This dissertation focuses on special connection ending mechanism and Connection Ending Protocol (CEP) in SUPANET. In this paper, the necessary of adopting independent CEP in Signaling and Management platform (S&M-platform) of SUPANET is analyzed. Also, data unit format, protocol process and cooperation of CEP between U-platform and S&M-platform are discussed. This paper stresses the treatment of normal negotiation removing and unilateral initiative or abnormity removing based on three-way-handshake.Compared with different connection ending methods in several other network architectures, this paper analyzes connection ending methods in SUPANET. Four types of CEP-PDU and their parameters are defined according to SUPA general signaling format, including notification PDU of intermediate node's ending connection. In the connection ending between end users, the data block total number (DBTN) is defined as optional parameter to judge if end user data is completely received, and delays a signal sending period to send ACK to complete ending connection. In view of the intermediate node connection ending, this paper provides a two-phaseconnection ending method, which includes a phase from the intermediate node to the destination node and a phase from the source node to the intermediate node.Finally, to validate the Connection Ending Protocols, simulation of working process of end-to-end connection ending has been carried out with VC, which has shown quite a good approximation to anticipation. The results show that information format of CEP can meet the real-time requirements of ending connection in essence.
