Because of lack of efficient computer animation tools, the production of animation still remains as a time-consuming and effort-taking job. The Motion Capture Systems, which became popular since 1990s, have been widely used in computer animation aid production. Problems, however, occur concerning how to produce animation efficiently and effectively using motion capture data. Under this background, motion capture data based animation has been a hot topic in Computer Graphics recently.The work of this thesis is to explore new approaches to motion capture data based animation, and presents the following algorithms, including motion graph based on-line path synthesis, physically realistic data driven puppet animation, motion graph base interactive control and response motion real time synthesis.Firstly, we introduce the motivation, the state of the art and the brief description of this work.Secondly, we make a brief survey on motion capture technologies and motion capture data based animation.We suggest an approach to on line motion graph based path synthesis. Firstly, we introduce the creation of the motion graph and cluster the vectors to optimize the motion graph. Secondly, we propose a fast search algorithm on motion graph according to the path synthesis application.We propose a physically realistic based data driven puppet animation algorithm. First, we explore the physical model of the real puppet. Then, we extract one target posture from the motion database, analyze the moment balance, and drive the puppet to that posture by defined velocity.We present a framework for generating boxing motions interactively basing on motion capture data. Within this framework, we propose two promising techniques: virtual human interactive control and generation of response motion.At Last, we conclude the work and discuss future work.
