The advanced telecommunications computing architecture (ATCA) is a series of modulized standards which are usefull for expanding system and depressing product cost. The embedded system platform, which was developed for crossing over different operating systems and improving the system performance, would support the expandation and maintainace for the software constructed on it.With the instance of constructing the embedded system platform after migrating the original hardware of base station controller (BSC) to the ATCA and developing the digital trunking system, the characters and developing process of embedded telecommunication software were described and the position, hardware architecture and outer interfaces of the BSC were studied.The embedded system platform on ATCA was analyzed especially the design and realization of the memory management, timer and communication, the realization of which enhanced the characters and improved the system performance. With the application of the embedded system platform, the design and realization of BSC was presented, a general design for module dispatching in task was proposed, and an improvement for finite state machine was provided.The main signal processes of voice group call service (VGCS) in digital trunging system were explained, and two feasible methods were developed to solve the problem in the delay assignment process. The design and realization of call trace in BSC was detailed.The thought and realization methods used in the digital trunking system development and embedded system platform for BSC was not only fit for other telecommunication equipment, but also can be referred for the system platform design and realization in related products and be helpful for other application system.
