The Design And Application Of Open Network Management Software Based On SNMP

In 1991, Internet began to be used for commercial purposes. Internet commercializationhas become a catalyst for the development of Internet, making it develop rapidly. With the rapiddevelopment of network technology, the number of networks, more and more network devicesincrease, the demand for network management is also increasing. At present, the home andabroad equipments manufacturers or operators do not have a unified network managementstandard for equipment, which causes failure to have the various products centrally managed.Therefore, for the achievement of the whole network equipment management, we need an opennetwork management system.This open network management system uses SNMP-based network management model.The manager can achieve the equipment monitoring through SNMP agent. MIB is a virtualdatabase of information, defines the attributes of each managed object, by loading differentMIB files, system can be extended to achieve different functions.This paper studies the software design of management, including network managementbrowser and MIB visual editor. The former uses a standard network management model toachieve the communication between management and SNMP agent. By loading different MIBfiles, a variety of different devices can be monitored. Manager can set and get equipmentperformance parameters, and can get the submission of trap-messages, which can be sent to theuser in the form of e-mail. Network management browser can poll devices and save the datainto MySQL database, and shows the data in charts. Besides, browser is able to detect thedevice topology automaticly, and shows a real-time display of device status, easy formanagment. This MIB visual editor is designed by the in-depth study of the structure ofMIB-based document, which is based on the ASN.1 syntax. This visual editor makes it easy for users to write or edit MIB files, besides it also improves the efficiency and reduces thedifficulty of the work.
