Research On The Publishing Project Management

This study aims to offering some micro-operation level reference to China'sbook publishing houses from the perspective of publishing managementinnovation.We firstly analysis book publishing activities' feature, integrating the conceptof project and project management, expounding the project features ofpublishing activities, proving the feasibility using project management approachfor publishing management. The article then put publishing project managementon the big vision of China's WTO accession and the publishing industryrestructured, through comparing project management to traditional publishingmanagement, to prove it is necessary and feasible for domestic Press to useproject management.For publishing project management, we firstly need to change the operationmechanism and the linear functional organization of traditional Press to matrixorganization, strengthening horizontal communication among departments.Then, to set up a project team, appointing a special project editor, upon this, theproject team can delimit the scope and responsibilities of the publishing projectclearly. According to the definition of project activities matrix organization andthe project work responsibilities assigned, we will scientifically control theproject progress, quality and cost to ensure the publishing project objectives.Finally, through the comparison to the wide used "Book project accountability" inrecent years in our Press, the article analyze some practical problems faced byour Press when introducing the project management, and discuss theapplication situation of book publishing project management and some otherquestions when the project is used.The principal innovation introduced by this paper, the first is to built a newpublishing management method—publishing project management fromorganizational level, to clearly devise the project organization personnel of labordivision, work decomposition and allocation of responsibilities;Secondly, fromthe progress of projects management, quality management, and costmanagement, the article expounded on the main elements of books publishingproject management;In addition, several important project management toolsare used to introduce to publishing activities, and in light of the actual situationin the publishing business to get a definition, can be used by Press as apublishing management technology tools.
