With the increasing requirement and dependency on networks, networkfailure is not only inconvenient but aslo may bring great social influence andtremendous economic loss. So research on survivability for networks has signif-icant meaning.Currently, researchers who have brought forward various definitions ofsurvivability do analysis and design only according to their own understandingon survivability and researching method. Hence it lacks fixed analysis methodand determinant criterion. Work of this thesis mainly includes following aspects:(1)In the light of the inconsistent understanding of survivability, this papercompletely and systemically analyzes survivability-related concepts and basicthoery.(2)Considering the problems of current definitions of survivability, in orderto provide a normal, engineering meaningful definition for the analysis anddesign of survivability, we introduce a new definition that has features ofprocess and embodies the essence of survivability, and propose the mathematicaldescription and model.(3)Currently, the computation and analysis of survivability is muchinformal and lacks uniform standards and fixed method. In order to provide asimple and effective method for the evaluation, optimization and design ofsurvivability for networks, this paper brings forward a survivability measure-ment framework that can reflect the whole network destroyed process andmanner.(4)We not only apply the framework to network survivability analysis butalso to network topology optimization and redundancy design and have design-ed and implemented the corresponding algorithms.(5)Because it is uncompletely that system's survivability is often evaluatedaccording to single survivability measure factor or one layer or a part in thewhole network hierarchy, so we introduce the concept of survivability synth-etical evaluation and bring forward a method and model to synthetically evalu-ate the network survivability.
