The design and realization of the embedded system to measure the material level of ball mill was described in this article. Its principle is through analysing the acoustical signal to calculate the material location . Ball mill is one of the most important milling devices in industry.The material location is a very important parameter and it influences the speed of hoisting or lowering load directly, so the measurement of the material location is very important .To keep the material location in a reasonable range could guarantee normal work and higher working efficiency of the ball mill.In the course of the design of the whole system, firstly, acoustical sound is picked up by S3C44B0X with microphone. Secondly,the signal is transmitted by the way of DMA through IIS bus and is stored in the harddisk.Thirdly, the frequency-domain characteristic of the signal is analyzed on PC (using MATLAB). The main method is the estimate of the average-period chart. According to a large number of experiments and analysis results, a basic mathematics model is set up and a standard is offered to control in the future.After the mathematics model is set up, the program of digital signal processing and the mathematics model are put in the S3C44B0X. The acoustical sound is picked up through external microphone ,and the frequency-domain characteristic of the signal is analyzed in S3C44B0X.At last,the material location in ball mill is estimated utilizing mathematics model.Then the result is shown on LCD and the operator can input some parameters through touch screen.
