The network has been divided into many components in the next generation network. Especially in SoftSwitch system, the separation of signalling from bearing, and the separation of service from call control lead to a great enhancement of independence and flexibility about the services provision. This thesis begins with the definition and characteristic of the NGN, describes the excellent characteristic of NGN, and makes a detailed instruction about the significant parts in the next generation network, including the components, functions and features of the SoftSwitch. Based on this, it analyses the methods of the SoftSwitch services implementation in NGN, including the evolution of the traditional services provision, the inosculation with the services supplying by traditional intelligent network, and the way that third party's servers provide services through the open API, whose typical representative are Parlay/JAIN and whose superiorities have been emphasized in the paper. The author works over the key technology of the call control model and service control model, and analyses the method that how the service logic detects and controls the basic call through the virtual views, and describes the structures of the general module and the service module in the SoftSwitch system. Then, the thesis describes some services in SoftSwitch. As a special variety of service, a modularization design about register service has been made with its common characteristic at first. Then, according to the commonness and speciality of different register services, the author uses the separated state machine to implement all kinds of register services independently and flexibly. Taking Malicious Call Tracing service as an example, this thesis explains the implementation of the SoftSwitch service with the method supplied in traditional intelligent network. Further more, the implementation of IPUnity service which is provided by the parlay application servers through the parlay API, and the importance of parlay gateway in parlay service provision have been analysed in this thesis. Finally, the thesis describes the High Availability of this SoftSwitch system on both software and hardware.
