With the coming of new century, the information network develops fast. The technology of wireless communication becomes more and more important. The packet radio network is a new wireless network. It uses packet switching between nodes and shares the common wireless channel. Accessing packet radio network into Internet can not only make use of the advantage of Internet, but also resolve the limit of fixed node communication. The technology of Mobile IP comes into use to meet the need of wireless communication. Mobile IP protocol allows any mobile node to move and change its point of attachment to the networks without having to change its IP address and leaving the higher layer application unaffected. This paper analyzes the application of packet radio network and mobile IP. Firstly, we discuss the function and architecture of packet radio network, including the connection of packet radio network, the character and function of combine unit in packet radio network. Secondly, the character and requirement of mobile IP are analyzed, and several designs are brought forward. According to the unique character of packet radio network, we use virtual network device to resolve it. A virtual point-to-point network device is registered for every mobile, which is used to configure route information about this device. Then the routing protocol will flood the route information into the whole packet radio network. Thirdly, the implementation of mobile IP in Linux operation system, and the application & communication of Mobile IP based on packet radio network are described. Finally, the test result of the mobile IP performance and the corresponding analysis are attached.
