The aim of the thesis is to research and design of High Speed Packet RadioNetwork(HSPRN) according to our specific requirements.Network topology, generalprotocol stack, multihop dynamic routing protocol, packet transport protocolarchitecture, node's formation and node's hardware/software realization of HSPRN areinvolved. In order to achieve the aim,we well absorb the results and experiences of lowspeed packet radio and especial HSPRN during our previous research which we hadresearched. In addition,we make full use of many of recent results of Ad Hoc mobilewireless networks to avoid passing too many unnecessary roads when we study anddevelop HSPRN.As long as possible, adopt off-the-shelf commercial technologies andcomponents:use embedded PC/104 processor system as hardware paltform,real-timeoperation system as software platform, of higher layers;use high-performance digitalsignal processor as operating platform of lower layers;adequately use ultra-largeFPGA technology, and so on.Network protocols, routing algorithm,real-time servicetransport protocol,MAC layer protocol, network node's hardware/software realizationare focused on.Firstly, the thesis simply introduces recent developments and future researchissues in mobile packet radio networks.Several kinds of routing protocols such asDBF,DSDV,DSR,ABR,and MAC mechanism in mobile packet radio networks areintroduced.MACA/PR architecture and it's performance in WAMIS aredetailed.Finally,system-level design of HSPRN is finished(the physical layer notincluded). The design is achieved with three innovative features:firstly, improve MACA/PRprotocol as a part of the end-to-end real-time transport protocol for HSPRN.Theimprovement is described below: 1 QoS routing implemented by ABR withbandwidth constraint, not by DSDV with bandwidth constraint,so that the systemthrougtput is increased; 2definition of a new 'time-slot'concept.The concept is basedon the process of 'send-reply'cycle of between two nodes directly within the radiocoverage range of each other.Secondly, the concept of an asynchronous TDMA is putforward. The concept does not require all nodes in a HSPRN network must besynchronous with the only one clock, but sending node must set necessary timeparameters (ie.,packet size, packet reaching rate, etc.) in the packet header beforesending the packet. After receiving the packet, the receiving node extrapolates the...
