This article gives a typical design plan of shift-handle ECUbased on a AMT( Automated Mannual Transmission ) system, including the software and hardware design. The way of thecommunication between shift-handle ECU and AMT-ECU and theapplication software communication protocol are also concerned.Shift-handle ECU ,which is usually set up in the vehicle cab, is theextended part of the AMT system. It can communicate with AMT-ECUby CAN network. They exchange information with CAN messageseach of which ofen include 8 bytes datas at most. The shift-handleECU sends information about the position of the shift-handleperiodically to AMT-ECU. Also, the AMT-ECU will sends theinformations about AMT current state to the shift-handle ECU.In the 1st chapter, the applied backgrounds, function requirementsand system paraments of the shift-handle ECU are introduced. First, the theory of AMT are introduced , then a UML chart and a flow chartare supplied to explain the work progress of the whole system. Then Igive a brief introduction of CAN technology. Next the systemparaments related to the ECU are concerned. Finally, a brief outlookabout the content of the article is given. In the 2nd chapter, the technology about CAN is concerned, concretely including the comparison of the way of the traditionalcommunication and the the CAN bus communication , the maincharacteristics and features of the CAN bus , the CAN controllerSJA1000 and the application protocol of the shift-handle system. In the 3rd chapter, a detailed design of electrocircuit of theshift-handle ECU is put forward. The diagnostic key circuit, warningcircuit, switch circuit,CAN circuit module and numberLED compose ofthe whole ECU circuit. The ordinary principles of circuit-design is alsoconcerned here.In the 4th chapter, the task of software design is finished. Firstly, theordinary principles of software design is laid out. Secondly, the modulepartition of the whole software system, the function interface design, the structure of the whole software and the detailed design of mainfunction are dwelled on. Finally, some diagnostic techniques areconcerned in order to better improve the performance of the wholesystem. In the 5th chapter, the development environment of the shift-handleECU , the methods for system test and the process of the test areconcerned briefly. We use Wave compiler which is produced inNanJin,and we chose multi-use programmer SUPERPRO as ouranother development tools. Generally speaking, the test process of aECU which aims to been applied in vehicles is divided into two differentphases: the lab test phase and the test in vehicle. During the lab testphase, we simulate a run-time environment with all kinds ofmethods ,the more the stimulant environment is like the real run-timeenvironment ,the better effect we will achieve from the test. When wefinished the lab test, we can go on our test in vehicle. The test invehicle may need a long time, because some software bugs can onlybe found out after it has run for a long time.In the 6th chapter, we give a brief and clear summary of the wholearticle. Here the application situation in vehicle of the shift-handle ECUis concerned, and also we put forward some ideas about how toimprove the current shif-handle ECU to make it work perfect. The shift-handle ECU now can work smoothly after the two-year--long deleopment and test. During the last two years, the version of theECU has been altered for many times. At present, the shift-handle ECU has been applied in the HEV busthat is designed and developed by FAW Technology Centre, and thebus has been put into market in 10th of December,2005 in WuXi.
