Nowadays, the object-oriented technology is being used more and more widely. On one hand, to understand and control the development process and improve the quality of the software, people need metrics more and more seriously. On the other hand, however, for the special characteristics of the object-oriented technology, a lot of traditional methods are not as efficient as what they were in the old time. All these get people expedite the research on object-oriented metrics and, fortunately, some nice results have been achieved.Based on the salient features and properties of object-oriented systems, we divide them into five levels. Then we introduce the existed object-oriented measures and analyze if they have covered all the five levels and if the measures of each level are integrated. According to the ISO software quality model and the measures existed, we provide a new quality metrics model for object-oriented software. As the manual measurement process is usually time-consuming and lack of objective, we developed a tool which is based on the model and can automatic the measurement. The tool integrated the SCM (Software Configuration Management) tools and we can use it to collect, analyze and display data automatically. Finally, with part of the data collected by the tool, a univariate straight-line regression analysis was performed to study the relationship between the metrics and the quality improvement of object-oriented software.
