Research On Usability Design Of Pen-based User Interface Based On PIBG Paradigm

With the performance of PC (Personal Computer) being improved obviously, HCI (Human Computer Interface) is developing more humanely, natural and intelligent. PUI(Pen-based User Interface), as the main interface style of Post-WIMP (Window + Icon + Menu + Pointing Devices) interface style, is to be the focus of research of HCI. PUI, based on pen-paper metaphor, provides a natural and highly efficient interactive mode to users, so it can reduce users' cognition burden. With the wide spread use of PUI in different fields, the usability problems of PUI are exposed gradually.Now days User Centered Design has been the main developing trend of user interface. PUI is facing on common users and has strong natural characteristic. It could help people complete kinds of pen-paper interaction naturally and effectively. Standing on the point of interaction design, the paper studies the usability design of the PUI system and its theories and methods etc.This paper firstly provides global and systematical analyses of PUI, after introducing PUI history and actuality, direction of development of PUI are discussed. Secondly, this paper brings forward the basic theories and methods on usability design of PUI. Furthermore, this paper introduces basic characteristics of PUI and puts forward a new PUI paradigm. Finally, the paper explicitly discusses usability design and usability evaluation of a pen-based user interface through the design of a real PUI system. This paper describes author's innovation in the research work in detail as follows:1. The author analyzes the theories, principles and methods of usability design of pen-based user interface.2. Through discussing the characteristics of PUI and analyzing the idea of PUI design, this paper provides a PUI paradigm based on user interface usability principle.3.
