The analysis of loss characteristic for non-ideal waveguide and groove-guide is one of practically very important problems in microwave engineering. Its exact solution is correlative with the waveguide component and the performance of system. A new method named the integrated equivalent circuit method with step approximation for analyzing loss characteristic of non-ideal transmission line is presented based on the theory of transmission line, the principles of equivalent circuit and transverse resonance, and the loss characteristic of non-ideal waveguide and groove-guide is analyzed conveniently and accurately. The integrated equivalent circuit method with step approximation and the equivalent network method are both based on the principle of "circuit", but the dispersion characteristic can only be analyzed by the equivalent network method, however, the dispersion and loss characteristics can be analyzed by the method of this paper. The waveguide wavelength, dispersion, cutoff, impedance and loss characteristics of rectangular, circular guide and rectangular, V, circular, ellipse, parabola groove-guide are computed and analyzed in this paper. The accuracy and validity of these results are verified.The analytic method of this paper has advantages of simple principle, direct-viewing expression, easily feasible computation, better applicability and so on. Thus it can be more conveniently used for solving the practical problems in microwave engineering. This method is not only avoiding computations of electric and magnetic field and electrical current in guide and groove-guide, but also solving a practically very important problem in microwave engineering. The work of this paper has important theoretical and practical significance to enriching theoretical studied and their engineering application of transmission line.
