In the first half of the 20th century some private-owned newspapers appeared. With the change of time and development of the society, the people of the private-own newspapers tried to seek balance among all kinds of social forces and to realize their ideal. Their ideas became mature along with the trace of history, and they manifested strong sprite of medial professionalism. Under the guidance of media professionalism they published many influential national newspapers and pushed the Chinese newspaper on the rode to modernization, which is an historic event in the history of Chinese media.In this paper some representative people and newspapers are selected and discussed. Meanwhile, the medial professionalism of the people of private-owned newspapers is analyzed in detail from three aspects: (1) the grasp of the kernel idea of media professionalism;(2) the understanding of the function of newspapers;and (3) the idea of management of newspaper publishing. We hope the article can provide us with a new scope for the investigation of the history of Chinese newspapers and some enlightenment for the management, operation and development of contemporary Chinese newspapers.
