Gateway is a kind of instrument for networks connection.Embedded gateway is embedded instrument what performs the function of connecting CAN-Bus and Ethernet.The dissertation analyzes the necessity of study on embedded CAN-Ethernet gateway and requirement of the system, based on the background of the project. The requirement of gateway is related to application, different kind of application has different points and guide lines. Generally, CAN gateway demands highly in real-time, reliability, efficiency. And, as CAN gateway, CAN protocol does not prescribe application layer and there are many kind of incompatible application layer protocols, CAN gateway must be current and opening. Based on the characters of gateway, requirements of the project, the investigation results of status in quo of gateway and trends of embedded instruments, we adopted the blue print what are based on tunneling. After analyzing of characters for the project, the dissertation analyzed and discussed many kinds of blue prints, after that, the final blue print of the CAN gateway was done. According to the blue print, we selected the LPC2194 as the MCU, which are perfect for CAN gateway and based on ARM7TDMI core. And all other peripheral chips are selected after the selection of MCU. After that, the hardware designing and performing were accomplished. The transplanting of μC/OS-Ⅱ ,the embedded operating system, was done base on the hardware. We also designed drivers for main peripheral chips, the software platform was constructed. At the same time, we summarized the principals of embedded system. In the end, after the analysis for the frames of Ethernet and CAN the dissertation bring forward a kind of method which is called Submerge Frame. This method can optimize gateway performance without any changing to operating systems, protocols and do not add excessive hardware. Based on the analysis of frames and serving time, it's proved Submerge Frame method can improve efficiency of network and stability of system.The dissertation discussed and expatiated of the construction of gate, based on ARM processor LPC2194, suits for embedded system application and practice. Theoretics and practicability of gateway designing are combined in the dissertation.
