Design And Realization Of IMS Database Management System Based The Mainframe

Along with the data consolidation of major banks of China, IBM mainframes have been applied comprehensively more and more. Depending on high reliability, high availability and high serviceability of mainframes, many banks use IBM mainframes and related software as their system platforms. IMS is a database management system running on IBM mainframes, which boasts for its fast access speed, and which has been used by CCB, Shanghai General Motors, etc. all along as the database management system. IMS, however, doesn't provide the Read, Write and modification operating interface for information in the database, resulting in hard maintenance for IMS data. So IMS Read & Write tool emerges as the times require.The IMS Read & Write tool mainly consists of two major parts: IMS data read and IMS data maintenance. The IMS database analysis and the related COPYBOOK analysis can be finished with the universal program language REXX;The processing for IMS data will be finished by COBOL language accessing IMS, and the processing results will be displayed on PANEL. The IMS Read & Write tool realizes various operating functions including data display, data conversion, data maintenance, etc. All of its operating interfaces follow the traditional style of IBM product interfaces, which are simple and easy-to-learn for users familiar with IBM mainframes.This topic aims at implementation of requirements analysis, system design and realization for systems in the programming perspectives. It builds a series of reusable software modules and concerns conversion of complicated data types including EBCDIC, compressed decimalism, etc., which is an excellent program development practice based on IBM mainframe platforms. The meaning for this research is that the IMS Read & Write tool provides end users with a simple and easy-to-use interface, by which users' commands can be entered and IMS-related operations can be made, and the operating results will be displayed directly on the Panel. This software facilitates greatly the IMS database maintenance and development and can improve workingefficiency of enterprises.A few functions are lack of the best design, and in the future they will be improved.
