In recent years, the television system has gone through the analog black-whitetelevision to the analog colored television and to the digital television. The hugedigital television market has brought an enormous potential opportunity for thedevelopment of the digital television equipment.There are two methods to implement digital TV source decoder. One isimplemented by ASIC and the other is by general-purpose chip, including FPGA andDSP. Most decoders are implemented by ASIC. ASIC has strong function, advancedtechnology and low price. However, it has little intellectual property. To use FPGA isbased on hardware: it is difficult to implement the system. While to use DSP is basedon software, it has more flexibility.I participated in the design and implementation of a completely programmabledigital television source decoder system based on generic DSP, TMS320C6415. Inthis system, the hardware implementation of the transport stream input, videodisplaying and audio playing has been resolved. In addition, high-speed dataexchange between on-chip and off-chip memory space is implemented successfullywith hardware means.Meanwhile, this thesis researched and developed video software decoding ,which is the key algorithm of the digital television source decoder. Reasonablyutilizing the resources of C6415 according to the video decoding flow. Consideringthe structure of C6415 and adapting many methods, several optimizations have beenmade. Variable length decoding, IDCT and motion compensation are coded in parallelassemble language. By the integrated use of many techniques, the video decodingefficiency has been greatly promoted.The system can implement the functions of digital SDTV source decoder. Sincethe limitation of the processor's capacity, HDTV source decoder has not been realized.But with the development of DSP, the completely programmable solution of HDTVsource decoder with single chip of generic DSP will be feasible.
