Digital TV is the third generation TV after black and white TV and color TV.Through the HDTV Set-top box, we can receive the digital high definition TVprogram with HDTV or digital standard definition TV program with analog TV. TheSet-top box is an bridge from analog TV to digital TV. The purpose of the paper is to design and implement the hardware of STi5514 ofthe new generation HDTV Set-top box.. We chose ST's HDTV source decodersolution with STi5514+STi7020. The hardware design and realizing of STi5514 andperipheral and the PCB design are described in detail in this paper. STi5514 is a highly integrated single-chip decoder for SDTV Set-top box. Also,it can control STi7020 to realize HDTV decoding. It integrates a high-performance32-bit CPU, three dedicated block for DVB TS demultiplexing and descrambling,modules for MPEG-2 MP@ML video and audio decoding and digital video encoder.An ATAPI interface is built-in for the glueless connection with standard Hard DiskDriver. In this way ,it can realize trick modes such as live TV recording,pausing andtime-shifting. It also integrates many on-chip peripherals such as ASC,SSC forsoftware update and conditional access. The part of STi5514 provides CVBS and S-Video video output formats and 2channels audio output.
