Spatial data amount increases explosively and its precision becomes more and more exactitude, which bring the problem of "Information Island". Furthermore, spatial data processing and analysis require high powerful computing and high-throughput capability. Considering the characteristics of spatial data, Spatial Information Grid (SIG) was proposed to improve the spatial application environment. SIG integrates spatial technologies with the Grid that can organize and manage spatial resources effectively.SIG began to be studied a short time ago. As the foundation of SIG, the technology of storing spatial data in grid environment demands to improve existing grid storing technology and spatial data storing technology. Using the technology of gird, spatial database and OpenGIS, we have designed a Grid Spatial Data Storing System and deployed a Spatial Data Access Service (SDAS) basing on OGSA-DAI. SDAS realizes geographically distributed and heterogeneous spatial data access.Considering the design of Grid Spatial Data Storing System and the realization of Spatial Data Access Service, the main work of this paper concentrated on the following parts: Discussed research value of Spatial Information Grid and introduced research status of Grid, Data Grid, spatial information technologies. Summarized the framework, implementation technologies and supporting technologies of SIG, and explained basic concepts of Grid, Web Service and OpenGIS. Designed architecture of Grid Spatial Data Storing System, and its components, namely Spatial Data Resource, Metadata Catalog Management (MCM) and Spatial Database Broker (SDB), were analyzed and designed in detail, and also analyzed the storing performance of the system. Constructed a laboratorial environment of Spatial Data Access Service based on Java2 and GT3.2. Using spatial data engine and OGSA-DAI 4.0, we deployed SDAS and realized distributed and heterogeneous spatial data access.
