Practice teaching of modern 32-bit Pentium principle and interface technology needs an integrative and flexible development platform to be established, which can catch up with the PC development. This platform not only can improve students'practice capability, but also give students a complete idea of the interface of modern PCs. The design principle and how to establish the development platform communicated with computer by Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP) are discussed in the thesis. The reliable and convenient communication between development platform and host-machine is the key point in this whole idea. After the modern PC development having been taken into account and the features of several PC interface designs having been compared, parallel print port under EPP mode is chosen to be the interface in the project. This kind of interface provides 8-bit bidirectional communication, has data/address bus, control bus and status bus, and responds to the requirement of interruption. It almost has the features of microcomputer bus and makes the design feasible theoretically. The thesis introduces the communication principle of EPP mode defined by IEEE1284 Standard in detail, and gives the way to access Enhanced Parallel Port. Based on the analysis of the principle of EPP mode, the development platform of Pentium PC principle and interface technology is designed. There are many kinds of peripheral circuits on the platform, and through connecting the EPP and those circuits, many functional experiments could be made, such as basic input/output, responses of the interruption caused by finishing count, and the conversion between analog signals and digital signals. The platform also provides USB interface circuit, which could test the function of USB interface. This project has realistic significance for the modern microcomputer theory teaching and also can be applied into other communication fields between host and peripheral equipments.
