The real-time processing technology of digital image processing has become a hotspot of research, as the applications of digital image processing extend continuously. The fast development of VLSI technology has provided the base of hardware ,the FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) is most suitable for performing real-time pixel-level image processing operations.In this paper, a project of cell image recognition experiment system using FPGA has been given and designed. The FPGA is the hardcore in this system. It can implement many image processing functions. Many algorithm of image processing has been realized using an Altera EPEXIOOQC208-1 FPGA. It can accomplish the graying of color image, gray level transformation, median filter , lowpass filter, binarization algorithm for gray image, etc , which have been realized in FPGA. Though a great deal of image data need to be processed, the delay is very small owing to FPGA. Finally,the image to be recognized is a binary image, the number of data is little. Experiment results show that the proposed approach is valid, many source codes of VHDL and experiment results have been given in this paper.The image processing algorithms of this paper are described through VHDL and have been simulated and verified by EDA tools.
