Fractal theory is a science newly developed in the past 20 to 30 years, it can describe roughness and irregular geometric shapes in the nature or in non-linear system. Although the shapes of plants various species is difference, they have the common character of self-similarity and self-reproduce. With the development of fractal theory, simulate plants using fractal became an important problem on computer simulate field. This thesis purpose investigating and practicing the method of simulating plants based on fractal theory in theory study and applied software.There are four methods on simulating plants based on fractal theory currently: L-system, Iterated Function System, Diffusion Limited Aggregation Model and Practical System. Because the emphasis of research is tree and plants of similar tree in nature, the author chooses the L-system as the foundation of research after a comparative analysis to simulating object and the character of algorithm. There are three improvements in L-system and some exploration in 3D visualize of L-system in this paper. In order to control detail, add the 3D effect of the images, the author uses BSP technique in program, combining L-system and fractal recursive algorithm. It has been proved to be a optimal algorithm simulating more class plants by contrasting the effect of images and some property.In order to describe detail easily, the algorithm considers the difference of individual plant, constitutes the flexible model of every plants part and choose parameters on the based of analyzing the structure growth characteristic of plant. Adding random functions, it makes the image more lifelike by using the drawing method and pen, brush in GDI+. By using timer tool, it can simulate and control dynamic growth of some plants.Using VB.NET and GDI+, the author has designed the application software named "System of Dynamic Simulate Plants Morphology". It can create lots of lively and lifelike images of plants. Furthermore, realizes the dynamic simulate control of plants growth by using timer control technology.An introduction to the designing ideas and main modules of the application software is in the end of this thesis.
