Along with research and development of the fractal theory, fractal theory hasbeen widely used in simulation of the natural landscape, design of the artistic pattern,compression of image data, natural growth of the fractal and research of chaoticdynamic system. Especially , fractal simulation method of natural landscape haveacquired a good application in computer electronic games, 3D animation, sciencefiction films, simulation of military, etc. In nature, the terrain, water surface wave,clouds of the sky, trees and other natural scenery all have fractal characteristics,therefore, this paper use the fractal theory to simulate these natural features, whichreflects the fine structure of the fractal of the natural scenery.The paper have researched the terrain modeling technology, the IFS algorithm togenerate trees and the fractal interpolation algorithm to generate the surface wave,terrain, clouds in the sky . Firstly, this paper have discussed three types of terrainmodeling technology, which are the fitting modeling based on data, the DEMmodeling and the fractal modeling, and compared four types of modeling technologywith each other, which are the grey value method, the quad-tree method based onLOD algorithm, the triangle subdivision method and the "diamond - square "subdivision method. Secondly, by using the IFS algorithm, this paper simulated thetrees in the natural landscape, and achieved a variety of trees by changing the IFScode and coloration, and realized the dynamic simulation. Thirdly, this paper use theDiamond-Square algorithm to simulate water surface wave, terrain and the clouds inthe sky, and have ameliorated the Diamond-Square algorithm principle, and improvedefficiency, and solved the problem of angularity point loss. After coloration, thealtitude data generate real-time, realistic, fast natural landscape by the renderingtechnology of smooth processing, texture mapping, illumination model, atomizationeffect, etc. Meantime, it has been achieved dynamic simulation of the water wave andclouds in the sky. Finally, this paper have completed the simulation of the naturallandscape, including the terrain, water surface wave, clouds in the sky, trees and other natural features, such three-dimensional structure of a natural landscape systems, andnatural landscape features affect substantially all of each other by their own,especially, Changes in the parameters of the system can produce different naturalscenes.Experimental results show that, IFS algorithm reflects the complexity anddiversity of the trees in nature, but the diamond-Square algorithm is simple, neatoperation the model of surface wave, terrain, and clouds in the sky.
