We can integrate all kinds of the resources across the Internet into a uniform system called Grid System, which provides the grid users with powerful services such as the sharing of information and computational ability. The grid technology has been seen as an important innovation since the popularity of Internet. There are many research projects, which focus on the grid technology, all over the world. Many of them have finished or attained important results. As one of the most important grid system elements, an effective management of grid resources becomes a milestone to the success of grid system research projects. But in a large-scale grid system, there are a lot of challenges a resource management system must face with. For example, resources in different administrative domains have different access policy, the failure of an sharing resource in a dynamic grid system, etc. A flexible and effective method is needed to manage the resources in a dynamic and complex grid system. Software agent is a software program, which has the characters of intelligence, execution independently and the proper interaction with the surroundings. As a kind of software agents, mobile agent has the mobility especially. It can transfer form one host to another and finish the tasks it has carried. In this paper, a mobile agent based grid resource management model is proposed. The characters of mobile agent such as autonomy, proactiveity, reactivity and reasoning are used combining with grid economy model to the discovery, scheduling and monitoring of grid resources. Its purpose is to make the grid resources management system gear to the dynamic and heterogeneous environment better. A detail description is made in the resource management architecture, the representation of tasks and resources, the registration of resources, the matching and scheduling between resources and tasks, the monitor and forecast of resources state, etc. A simulative experimentation based on GridSim, which is a good simulation toolkit for grid resource management, has been done to verify the efficiency. The simulation has got a lot of better results.
