Saving energy & reducing the cost and building digital oilfield are two major issues in oilfields at home and abroad. The application solutions combining energy saving technology with digital management will become a wider trend in oil field production technical innovations. The pumping unit group controlling system which combines pumping unit frequency conversion technology with centralized monitoring technology conforms to the trends. Pumping unit group controlling system with frequency conversion based on DC power supply configuration conquers the disadvantages of single pump unit frequency conversion device on the basis of retaining its advantages. Thus, it makes great sense to research the data communication mode of pumping unit group controlling system and develop corresponding system integrating the system architecture.The application status and development trend of pumping unit minitoring technology at home and abroad are summarized in this paper. Then the application situations of wire communication mode and wireless communication mode are also introduced. On the basis of this, the data communiciation system of pumping unit group controlling system was conducted. Combining with the field application, a hybrid communiciation structure was proposed, which integrates the long-distance wireless communication mode based on CDMA 1×network and the short-distance wireless communication mode. At the same time, a pumping unit group controlling system communication protocol was designed corresponding with the structure. Adapting nRF905 launch by Norwegian Nodic Company, a type of short-distance wireless module was designed. Then the communication controllers based on C8051F015 MCU for terminal unit and data concentrator communication controller were developed. The software and hardware development of long-distance wireless communication system based on Hongdian H7710S DTU was also carried on. In order to realize the centralized monitoring for DC unit and frequency conversion terminal unit, the minitoring software based on VB2008 was designed. Through this software, the terminal unit command can be given and the terminal unit status can also be showed in the forms of numbers, lines and display flags. The data gathered by will be stored in MS Access database, MS Execl tables and html files.As the system design completed, laboratory experiment about data communication network and minitoring software was carried out. The experimental result proved the correctness and feasibility of the system scheme. At last, the problems and improvement directions of system design were summarized in this paper.
