Along with large-scale deployment of 3G network in China, streaming media business has been developed rapidly. It provides a more convenient platform for data transmission through the network. Streaming media technology has been playing an increasingly important role in our daily life. The problem of how to provide real-time and reliable streaming media service through streaming media technology has aroused mobile operators' concern. Quality monitoring of 3G streaming media service is very important for network construction and integration. In addition, the quality monitoring work is also a great significance for promotion of media business.By analyzing quality monitoring requirements of media service from China Unicom, the thesis, combining with the current development status of media service quality monitoring, analyzes the measurement parameters which are collected during the streaming media experience and makes a comprehensive evaluation of network performance.First of all, this thesis introduces the current achievement in the research of quality monitoring. By comparing the advantages and disadvantages between active monitoring and passive monitoring, it identifies the active monitoring as a method to complete the monitoring work in this project, and discusses the focus of monitoring work from QoS to QoE.Secondly, this paper summarizes the monitoring system and has a brief introduction to system components as well as its functions. Additionally, stream media transmission protocols are described in detail in this study.Then, the article details functions and communication processes of the terminal system. Through designing and implementing for each process of the terminal system, specific task for the terminal is been defined. By using terminal interface, on the one hand, the terminal can achieve tests for media services and data collection by the use of LIVE555. On the other hand, it implements data exchange and communication with monitoring platform.Finally, the dissertation analyzes the parameters which are collected during business tests by improved QoS model. This model, which chooses acceptable maximum value and minimum value of indicators as a testing standard, selects indicators for service quality evaluation. And then, testing data for each group are normalized and summed by weight. Using this value assesses the quality of the network. Tests show that the model largely reduces target type and indicator valve. With this model, the network performance can be better assessed combining with subjective evaluation from users.
