While developing infrared imaging system or researching the algorithm of targetdetecting and recognition, abundance of different infrared images are necessary for testing,training and evaluation. However, real images got from the outfield need a great deal of time,manpower and material resources, which would influence the efficiency and rate of progress.Infrared imaging simulation can solve this problem as an economical and efficient method.In this paper, the modeling and simulation of the infrared scenes of the space target isdeeply analyzed, several reseach fields are involved, such as thermal exchange theory,inertiatechnology,infrared physics,signal pocessing,modeling&simulation and so on, which wouldbe a great challenge. The main work of this paper is as follows:Firstly, based on the thermal exchange theory, the thermal model of the space target isestablished and the distribution of its surface temperature is calculated by using the thermalnetwork method; and then, the infrared radiation of the target and the environment is deduced,which would be transferred into gray scale.Secondly, the motion model is discussed, the pose changes of the detector and the relativemovements of the target are taken into account, moreover, the imaging position of the target iscalculated.Thirdly, the inherent effects of the detector is added to the simulated images, thecausation of optics dispersion, noise of the detector and blind pixels in the imaging arrays aredetailed analyzed. Moreover, the operating range of the infrared detector and the imaging sizeof the target are also discussed.Finally, the simulated images are validated by the real images taken by the infrareddetector, and the reliability of the simulated images are calculated.In this paper, the whole imaging process of the space target on the infrared detector isrealized. As more factors are considered in this paper, more actual infrared images would besimulated. Some of the models and methods in this paper are used to provide testing scenesfor an information processing system which works in the space.
