In this paper, a 3D laser scanning instrument for rock surface is developed based on the principle of structured-light and computer vision theory. The instrument can be widely used for the acquirement of rock surface 3D data, and fractals in rock mechanics research, as well as other three-dimensional surface topography measurement, which shows good prospects of application. The main topics of the research are:1. According to the rock surface characteristics and technical requirements, the overall structure of the system solution is designed. Furthermore, a three-dimensional measurement model is constructed based on the principle of structured light scan.2. A fast calibration method for the line structured light is researched employing the constraint relationship of the space plane, and also, the corresponding calibration target plane is designed. This method does not need any auxiliary equipment. During calibration, the target plane is placed randomly at several positions in the field of the camera view. Simultaneously, a group of image is captured, then, the camera internal parameter and the light plane space positon can be calibrated by one-pass.The whole process is simple and fast.3. The structures of the laser scan system for the 3D surface analyzer is designed, including sensor mechanical structure design, and the selection of the important components. The corresponding application software is developed;4. A three-dimensional laser surface analyzer is developed, the measurement accuracy of the calibrated system was verified, and the actual scanning experiment is proceeded, the accuracy better than 0.02mm in height direction.
