Virtual prototyping is conducive to business faster and better way to produce high-quality products,to win customers and the market. Virtual prototyping is bound to become a mainstream technology of product development in manufacturing industries in the future, especially for those with complex systems, high trial cost and long production cycle, such as construction machinery and equipment, automobile, aviation and aerospace. For large and complex products, the development needs multiple persons and design teams to work together. This paper studies a number of key technologies of the co-design platform for virtual prototyping, and further develops a prototype system. The main research contents and results are as follows:1.The characteristics and demands of the collaborative design platform for virtual prototype are analyzed. The integration system structure and three-tier progressive R&D structure are applied for the platform to design the run framework.2. The demands for co-modeling of the virtual prototype are analyzed. The task decomposition and activity restructuring are studied based on fuzzy DSM. The hierarchical information model for parts is provided as the basis of virtual prototyping. The hierarchical structure of product collaborative assembly model and collaborative assembly process are studied. The multi-view modeling mechanism is discussed and the data switch is elaborated.3. The causes, classification, characteristics and trends of conflict are studied. The strategy to conflict classification management is proposed on the basis of the study on traditional conflict resolution methods and the conflict resolution strategy for each conflict category is put forward. The data consistency and the concurrency control are studied. The conflict resolution model with certain level of automation, intelligence and integration is proposed.4. The prototype system is developed upon the study of above key technologies, on which the collaborative design process of virtual prototype is illustrated through a case study.
