With the fast development of network technology and the extensive application of distributed systems, the demand of high-precision clock synchronization system is increasing. the demand on higher accuracy of network time synchronization is growing quickly toμs level in many areas such as measurement and control systems, communication, industrial automation, electronic etc. The current network time synchronization methods, such as NTP is difficult to meet the requirements of the above areas. To fulfill this growing demand, this thesis provides in-depth research on the high-precision network time synchronization system.Firstly, the thesis introduce and analysis the existed network time synchronization methods. Comparing IEEE1588 protocol to NTP as focus and pointing the superiority of IEEE1588. Secondly, elaborating the synchronization principle of IEEE1588 and the key technologies, as well as the algorithms. Then analyzing the factors that influence accuracy of network time synchronization such as delay, instability of oscillator, topology and other factors, and providing the revolutions of compensating the influence. At last, in-depth researching on the core technology of IEEE1588 system that designing of local clock. In order to calibrate the local clock, this thesis proposes the clock's frequency compensation algorithm based on the functional requirements of the local clock in hardware design, and uses QuartusII software to simulate the local clock and verify its feasibility. So it provides firm theoretical ground on hardware platform design and realization.
