With the development of informationization, Smart Card has been widely used in many industry fields. The other name of Smart Card is Integrated Circuit card; we call it IC card for short. IC card was originally designed to solve financial transactions of security problems, and it brings brand-new transaction concept and unprecedented advantages. These advantages mostly consist of good machine literacy, approbatory preventive technology, and relatively large data storage capacity. Soon, these advantages are noted by other industry fields, make IC card is widely used in mobile phones, transportation, medical, access control, schools and other areas such as ID CARDS.The purpose of article is to deepen understandability of the communication principle between IC card and interface device, improve the understanding of the IC card design method and master the current technology of IC card communication interface and SoC design. The object is contact IC card communication interface, which accord with ISO/IEC 7816-3 stantard. This design also gives attention to EMV specification in finance field and GSM 11.11 specification in mobile communication field.Article research IC card communication interface technology mainly via following aspects. Firstly, analyzed the present development situation of IC card, and pointed out the significance of this research. Secondly, researched SoC design technology, serial communication technology, smart card security technology.Which are regarded as the soul and method of this study.Thirdly, studied ISO/IEC 7816-3 stantard, because this standard is internationally recognized as asynchronous IC card electrical interface and transmission protocols, which is the most widely used universal standard. Except these, the communication interface conventions of EMV specification and GSM 11.11 specification are nearly same to this standard. Therefore, this paper made ISO/IEC 7816-3 stantard as a chapter for research. Finally, on the basis of the theories preparation, this article put forward a kind of contact IC card interface design scheme. And then, an IC card communication interface was designed and implemented.The paper's innovation are mainly reflected in following aspects: 1. The study is designed by the bus-based method, which make the design strong portability. Just change the bus interface module design, it can applied to other bus types of SoC design. 2. The communication clock status is readable when the study is used in IFD mode, that enhance hardware controllability for developers. 3. LRC and CRC checking functions are improved by the hardware realization, at the same time ROM space costs are saved for software programmer. 4. The ETU counting module implement re-synchronization of commmunication clock when receiving or sending data. As IFD interface application, power consumption are reduced by stop ETU counter when smart communication module does not work. 5. ICC interface module and IFD interface module are putted together in one design, make the design can be used for ether ICC or IFD applications.The major work of article is designed and implemented a new contact IC communication interface. The interface has been passed each level validation and finished testing, proven to be completely support ISO/IEC 7816-3 stantard, support T=0/T=1 transfer protocols, support clock stop operation, support direct/inverse convention, and support character error repetition. The repetition times are optional. The interface function and performance are proved perfect. The results of article has widely application value. For example, it can be referenced by other further researchs of IC card, and it can also be used as the contact part of Dual Interface Card application.
