Measurement of wind velocity and direction has great significance in weather forecast, environment monitoring, wind power generation, aerospace and other areas. With the development of sensor technology, microprocessor technology and network communication technology, digitized and intellectualized meteorological instruments have greatly improved on precision, speed and stability, comparing to traditional manual observation.In this thesis, a wind velocity and direction measurement system used in traffic weather station is designed. A measure method using pressure sensors as the probe is selected, ZigBee technology and wireless sensor networks structure is analyzed, the model based on traffic weather station is established. A wind measurement model with pressure sensors has been researched, wind velocity and direction can be obtained by using neural network algorithm with 4 channels differential pressure sensor signals, the feasibility is also proved by experiments. Design of hardware circuit and software is finished. The system contains data acquisition module, data processing module, wireless communication module and power supply module. System takes ATmega128L and CC2420 as its core, has realized the functions of data collection, A/D, wind velocity calculation, wireless transmission and LCD display. The whole system is a node of the traffic weather station network, can operate with other meteorological data collection nodes, and communicate with coordinator through wireless network, then submit the meteorological date to traffic weather station database.The collection, management and transmission of meteorological data become more intelligent and linkable by using ZigBee technology in traffic weather station, the management cost is reduced, and the efficiency of meteorological department is improved. The system has advantages in accuracy, power consumption and anti-jamming, and has wide application prospect.
