With the development of communication technology, the formation of the coexistence of multiple heterogeneous network environment, the bearing type and amount of service has also increased dramatically, which in this network scenario, the business end to end QoS guarantees become more complex, requiring integration of the heterogeneous networks to provide more flexible and efficient control methods, research in this area are also increasing, However, as a famous simulator, the Network Simulator 2 (NS2) offers little support for it. Hence, further researches and extensions are neededThis article focuses on the heterogeneous network based QoS control simulation module design and implementation, through analysis the existing related projects in heterogeneous networks NS2-based simulation, summed up the heterogeneous network simulation basic modules, and through depth study for the design and implementation of these modules, which make up the function of NS2 inadequate in this regard, provided a NS2-based simulation tool for the heterogeneous networks research.First, by analyzing the reason that heterogeneous network can not communicate with each other in NS2, presents a novel extension method which was generated hierarchy addresses and hierarchy classification. Tests have been performed to assess the behaviors of the new function introduced to the simulator and results show the accuracy of the extended function.Secondly, at the conclusion of the current status of multi-interface research, use of several different types of common nodes to form a multi-node interface, the method makes the combination of nodes can access to different types of networks, and can be easily extended to include More and more types of network interface nodes, provided a multi-interface capabilities to heterogeneous networks simulation to meet the network selection or switch to other in real-time adjustment, the simulation results show that the expansion can correct and effective use of multi-interface communication.Finally, by analyzing the QoS monitoring function, presents a novel QoS monitoring model for NS2, which is also implemented by embedding the QoS monitoring function into the original node structure. The extension improves the simulation basis for QoS research in heterogeneous networks. Tests have been performed to assess the behaviors of the new model introduced to the simulator and results show the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed model.
