As processor frequency increases closer to the limit, single-processor multi-core platform is the current mainstream. Now, with advances in semiconductor technology, processor's integrated core number gradually increased, therefore multi-core processor has more and more computing potential.DPI (deep packet inspection) technology is the key means of measuring and controlling network traffic, and is widely used in scenarios of the service identification, content detection, security auditing, etc. Because DPI inspect deep into the network packet payload, so it needs large amount of data processing, and high-speed backbone network traffic, challenges the DPI system's utility altogether.Based on the two aspects described above, this thesis conducts the research of DPI technology optimization on multi-core platforms, in order to improve network traffic handling capacity of DPI systems. This thesis summarizes the key algorithm of DPI technology and existing research findings, combined with the principle of multi-core platform and multi-core software design investigation and elaboration, forming a strong basis for DPI optimization on multi-core platform. Then, this thesis discusses DPI application-e-mail monitoring system, with protocol analysis, and the DPI system is completed in form of the typical implementation architecture. On the typical DPI system that has been achieved, this thesis proposes three optimization approaches:the optimal operation of the thread distribution mechanism on cores; optimization of load weight of thread; optimization based on characteristics of protocol packets. This thesis elaborates the optimization of the assessment elements, and for each of the optimization program, description of the whole optimization process is presented and with detail results discussions. Investigations and the actual optimization results of this thesis show the potential of DPI optimization on multi-core platforms.
