With the improvement of people's living standards, the car consumption has become a big part of household consumption. Cars are developing to provide the entertainment, information, network services, etc. Car Computer acts as the key factor in the role change of a car.Currently, the hardware and software of a CarPC are mainly based on embedded system. The CarPC using embedded architecture has a lot of advantages, including lower power consumption, little memory needed, compacted functions, and real time processor. However, those advantages of it also cause its limitations. That's its functions couldn't be extended or changed easily, which makes a great inconvenience to users. With the rapid development of storage, power supply, low-power processors technology, the realization of CarPC has no need to rely on the embedded architecture. The general-purpose CarPC can not only provided rich third-part application software, vividly GUI, standard exterior device interfaces but also built-in wireless net-card which make users can use wireless network to surf on Internet.This paper studies a new realization of a CarPC which is using general-purpose computer architecture. The main innovation of my research is completing to design and develop a Car Audio System which is based on general-purpose computer platform and having taken the audio system as a model to research the development of general-purpose computer at CarPC field. The main work of this paper is to add new Car Audio System which can interface with general-purpose computer with USB interface and to develop the related software so as to realize controlling audio functions on computers. The advantage of this method is that it can make great use the existed and mature techniques to fulfill high-performance and low-cost demand.
