As an advanced video surveillance system, network video surveillance system use an open framework and can be integrated. Its equipments can be disposed without geographical restrictions. It also supports network access and IP camera. With the best operating system and software of system management, it can achieve effective allocation of system resources and provide quality services. This paper describes the working principle capability of major equipments. It describes that how to build an effective, secure and reliable netwok video monitoring system. And it also proposes that how to choose cost-effective equipments in this system. On analyzing the principle of IP camera, it can take data of audio and vedio. Then do coding. The IP camera can plug and play. By comparing the network video recorder and digital video recorder, network video recorder can be set in anywhere of the net. It is not affected from the physical network wiring and location of equipments and the control center. Network video recorder can be flexibly set in the differernt system. By introducing the technology of decoding and display, decode devices and display devices will be going to save bandwidth and make picture much more clearer in the future. By introducing the principle and effection of central management software, it can ahchiwve the deployment of system resources. Then, this paper make a specific instance of the engineering design. It describes how to build a cost-effective network video surveillance system, including the selection of equipments in actual situation. It runs well and fits the requirements. Finally, this paper makes a summary of networ video monitoring system, and looking to the future of network video surveillance system.
