License Plate Recognition System And The Research Of Its Hardware Implementation

Vehicle license is an identification and certification of vehicle. Nowadays, the license plate recognition technique has become an important research direction. It has extremely vital significance for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). On the basis of our research, this paper proposes a new algorithm in order to solve the various problems for license plate recognition technology at present. In addition, this paper discusses three critical technologies of the car license recognition hardware implementation. The specific contents just as follows:The software implementation of license plate recognition system includes three parts: license plate location, character segmentation and character recognition. License plate location is the base of license plate recognition. Success or failure of the overall system is related to the localization accuracy. This paper mainly discusses the license plate location based on edge detection method, which realize the license plate location by edge detection and morphological operations; Character segmentation acts as a bridge between character recognition and plate location, which plays an important role in the license plate recognition system. This paper focuses on the projection method to achieve character segmentation; Character recognition is the vital technology of license plate recognition system, whose recognition rate is directly related to the ultimate level of license plate extraction results. This paper discusses the character recognition based on neural network technology. We use different neural networks to identify the alphanumeric characters and Chinese characters. Experiments show that this method achieves very good results.As for the hardware implementation of license plate recognition system, this design combines the SOPC(System-on-a-Programmable-Chip) technology with vehicles license plate recognition technology, and proposes a system model of vehicles license plate recognition based on the SOPC. Taking the theory research and practical experiments, this topic studies the intrinsic relationship between SOPC hardware system and the license plate recognition, and achieves this system through establishing theoretical models and making use of the hardware and software method.The paper's research will open a new avenue to realize the vehicles license plate recognition technology by the hardware. It will directly promote the research, development, application and industrialization of the SOPC technology and vehicle license plate recognition technology.
