Wireless sensor network(WSN) is composed by large quantities of inexpensive mini-nodes in the objective monitored region, which can collaboratively achieve the perception and calculation, then send the information about the objects monitored region. WSN involving in abundant of technical fields is a multidisciplinary new discipline of highly cross which is placed firstly in the list of ten emerging technologies which can change the future imposed by MIT technology review. The thesis comprehensively introduces Wireless Sensor Network's system structure, characteristics and constraints. A wireless sensor network node based on ARM microprocessor was designed according to the design principles and application needs of sensor network. And it is discussed in details of designing and implementing MUC module, sensor module, wireless communication module and power management module. On the level of data link, the frequency hopping communication mechanism was taken to solve the communication interference problems which is caused by other equipment worked in the same band employed in this thesis. A new, concise and explicit, secure and reliable frequency hopping protocol- linear frequency hopping protocol is proposed according to the conditions and limitations of the hardware in this article.Location of nodes is the foundation of mass application in WSN which is of vital importance for the sensor network's monitoring activity. The range-based location algorithm has the high accuracy in most location algorithm. Consequently the range-based location algorithm is selected as the location algorithm in this paper. Choosing an improved TDOA location algorithm as the location algorithm in this paper is after comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the existing range-based location algorithm. The IIR filter approach and the amplitude analysis approach is used for the arrival time of the sound ranging signal. At length, verifying the accuracy of the algorithm through some experiments yields a result that the maximum error is less than 0.6 meters in the range of 30 meters.
