Augmented reality (AR) refers to the addition of a computer-assisted contextual layer of information over the real world, creating a reality that is enhanced or augmented. As time goes by, the augmented reality technology has begin to mature to a point where the hardware cost and capabilities have collided to deliver a more feasible AR thus enable the rapid development of AR applications in many fields including education.Augmented reality e-book refers to the book which display virtual 3d scene through the enhanced image recognition of augmented reality. Augmented reality e-book can overcome numerous deficiencies of traditional books,so it's a beneficial attempt in education field.To begin with the paper provides a brief background on the application situation of augmented reality. The paper discusses the project cases and experience about the attempted to use augmented reality in education teaching. And it summarizes the technical route and system platform of the augmented reality projects. Then, this paper expounds the utility of augmented reality e-book in education field including operation skills training, experimental teaching, game teaching, learning environment and disabled people related education teaching. It analyzes the factors affecting the development of augment reality e-book, and design the development model of augment reality ebook.Finally, the paper illustrates the model with an example. It describes the project of augmented reality e-book about "Children to read". On the demand analysis stage, this paper analyzes the cognitive needs of preschool literacy and the deficiency existing cheeper literacy books, and puts the overall demand " preschool literacy ebook" based on virtual reality.In the design stage, this paper introduces the design of the overall structure of the augmented reality ebook and the detailed design of the paper books,3d models and multimedia resources, and application.In implementation, application adopts ActionScript 3.0 for development language, FLARToolKit as tracking class library, Papervision3D as 3D frame.
